What is a Volcano?
The earth has 4 layers crust mantle outer core inner core. The earth has a 1st layer called the crust what is cracked into big chunks that are called Tectonic plates.
When the Tectonic plates collide together magma gets through the gaps in the crust.
Magma comes from the mantle the mantle is the layer under the crust. When magma gets out of the vents it is called lava. When lava cools down it turns back to rock to form a volcano.

Volcanic Rocks
I volcanic rock are real if you do not know go see for yourself like i did I went to a park mum wanted to go bush backing so we all came with her and I found pumice I was washing my hands and I felt clay but it was pumice.
Pumice is made when the magma has a lot of gas in it and it cools very quickly.
obsidian is a volcanic rock that forms when magma/lava cools very quickly. Obsidian looks like black glass and is called volcanic glass.
Limestone is made from the skeletons of sea creatures and seashells on sea beds that are thousands of years old. The limestone comes to the surface of the earth through the movements of the tectonic plates.
Basalt
Lava flows under the ocean making an igneous rock that is usually fine-grained like salt and is dark-colored.

What is the Impact?
The good effects of volcanoes is that we can get minerals from the volcanic rock such as gold, zinc and uranium. Another good effect is that the richest soil comes from Volcanic activity. The plants get nutrients
to grow well. In indonesia they get 3 crops a year and usually in NZ we get 1 crop a year. We also get Geothermal power . Geo means “earth” and thermal means heat. Geothermal heat is produced in the
Earth's core and mantle. It heats the rocks
and water deep in the earth's crust. People
can drill into the Earth and use heated water and steam to produce electricity in power plants.
The Bad effects
Volcanic eruptions can stop airplanes from flying because the ash in the clouds can get into the engines and stop the engine from working.
Volcanic eruptions can lead to unusual weather. In 1815, it was called the year without a summer because Mt Tambora in Indonesia erupted. It was the biggest volcanic eruption in over 1600 years and it affected the globe. In America, the ash blocked out the sunlight and cooled the earth.
